‘Ms. Marvel’ Co-Creator Sana Amanat Explains Why Kamala’s Powers Are Different From The Comics

“Ms. Marvel” is the next Disney+ original Marvel show which will introduce the popular titular character from the comics into the MCU. Starring Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, the show is looking like a very faithful recreation of the character into live-action.

But one aspect of her has been the point of debate in the fandom. That is her powers are different from what they are in the comics. So now co-creator Sana Amanat herself has decided to explain why this change is made. Let’s see what she has to say.

While talking to Entertainment Weekly, Sana Amanat went into many aspects of the series including the powers. She says that change is made to make sure that her powers are linked to larger stories in the Marvel universe. While that is still a bit vague, she has been with the character since its inception in 2014, so you can trust her on this.

Since we’re talking about Marvel, let’s talk a bit about what the MCU is up to these days. “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is out now and it is truly something special. If you’re thinking about watching it, check out our guide on what to watch before Multiverse of Madness.

What to expect from ‘Ms. Marvel’?

The show will be the origin story of the titular character as a new hero in the MCU. Kamala Khan is just an average girl dealing with average teenage issues. However, she idolizes Captain Marvel and dreams to be a part of the Avengers someday.

The mini-series will chronicle her journey from average teen girl to superhero or even possibly an Avenger. Moreover, it looks this show will also set the premise for the upcoming “The Marvels.” But the major MCU story aside, this series looks like something very unique and is definitely something to keep an eye out for.

Ms. Marvel release date

The show will release its first episode on June 8, 2022. We expect the series to follow a weekly release schedule from thereon as all Marvel shows have. And of course, it is coming exclusively to Disney+.
